Villa Sardi in English
Villa Sardi, lies in the hills surrounding Lucca at about 300 metres above sea-level and only 10 kms away from the historical city centre.
The building dates back to the end of the 15th century but was bought by the Sardi family at the beginning of the 16th century, as can be seen in the contract deposited in the State Archives in Lucca.
The whole complex can be traced back to several stages of construction coinciding with the different needs of the family, who have been the sole owners from its origins to present day, when Countess Maria Clementina bequeathed it to her son who now lives there with his family.
The Sardis are an ancient family of silk merchants from Lucca who dealt with Holland and above all Poland, where one of its branches settled down.
The family supplied Lucca with numerous important people, covering both public and ecclesiastical positions.
In the 18th century, when Villa Sardi was the oldest property belonging to the family apart from the city palace, it underwent extension and renovation with the building of the external staircase, the loggia, the small clock-tower and the octagonal fountain at the centre of the elegant Italian garden, making this the family’s most loved property, so much so that it never changed hands..
The villa is the ideal setting for any kind of reception or event or simply for spending some time in total tranquillity surrounded by elegance and simplicity. It is situated in an area that offers long country walks and interesting places to visit like the nearby splendid Romanesque parish churches as well as trips to Versilia, Garfagnana, and historical city centres such as Lucca, Pisa, and Florence, easily reached by car within the hour.
Although not open to the public, visits to Villa Sardi and its Italian garden can be booked and its owners are glad to offer hospitality for any length of time to whoever desires to stay in contact with uncontaminated nature, far from chaos and noise.
Furthermore, the owners are happy to lay the whole complex with its elegant spaces at the disposal of anyone who wishes to hold receptions or events of any kind in an unforgettable atmosphere.
